Learning about “Spa & Hot Tub Covers” Part II

I thought I would go back to the subject of Spa’s & Hot Tub covers. Like I said in my last post, I’m writing this because I really hate to see people wasting their money on inferior products. I’m not saying that all internet sellers are not honest, but being involved in this business I hear a lot from customers. I’ve been involved in this business over 6 years and my husband nearly 20 years. When customers call us it’s usually word of mouth or they are complaining about the cover they ordered off the internet and now want what we offer.

As I mentioned in my past post I listed two things that the consumer should be aware of when ordering. Here I shall explain some more insight on ordering a cover through the internet.

Consumers don’t realize how many of the covers get damaged during shipment. If it does have damage on it what are you going to do when it gets to your house? Either you have to be there to receive the delivery so you can check it before the delivery man/company leaves so you can refuse the order or you get stuck with a damaged cover. One of the biggest sellers on the internet, specifically states they do not take returns period. If they do take returns, its your responsibility to get it back to them which can be expensive and troublesome for some customers.

Another thing to be on the look out is the “warranty” they give you. There is not one company/manufacturer that gives warranties. We are able to help out our customers because of the relationship we have with our manufacturer. If something happens to your cover that we sell you, within a reasonable time period due to manufacturing we will get you another cover. You will not find that from any other dealer.

Another thing to take in consideration is they charge you for the product before it’s even shipped and usually there isn’t anyone to come measure it for you. We, my husband or myself with a purchase will go to the customer’s house and measure the spa and that is included in the quote we give you along with the shipping fees.

So my suggestion to owners of spas is to make sure you know who you are ordering from, don’t think because its cheaper it will be the same. Ask your neighbors or friends you know that have bought covers and get some feed back from them.

Unfortunately we sell only on the South Eastern Seaboard of the US and rarely drop ship the covers. If we do, it’s because it’s a repeat  customer and we have the measurements from the last time. We use to sell further up North but we now live in Myrtle Beach, SC and getting older with less spunk I guess you could say!  LOL

So just remember, if it seems like a really good deal it’s probably not a very good product that won’t last or they are not telling you about the upcharges at first, so be aware…..

If I can help you in anyway please don’t hesitate to send a comment or ask a question, I will get back to you as soon as I can.

A little back story about me. When I was 8 years old I lost my Mother in a very tragic way. That Christmas Eve morning she gave me a kiss and said she would see me tonight. I was to go to my Grandmothers after our school party and she would be there after her office party. Well that never happened, I never got to see or tell my Mother Merry Christmas again. She was gone! Four days later two boys canoeing in the lagoons in the park in New Orleans found her body. But this is a story for another day!

Because my Father was all alone now and working 12 hours a day we decided it was best for me to move in with his Mother, my loving Grandmother. I was so lucky to have her and my Aunt that was only 9 years older than me. We went to the same school even though she was in high school an I was in 3rd grade, we walked to school and back home everyday. I would notice the different colors, birds and trees as we walked and talked along the way.

In those days my Grandmother would have to start her stove with those long matches, ya know the kitchen matches. After she would use them she put them in a tin on the table. As I was sitting there talking with her I picked one up and just started playing with it and realized I could sketch with them. I started sketching with them on her paper napkins. That’s what really started me in art. I kept sketching all through my school years. Oh sure as soon as someone found out that I did draw, I was always helping with backgrounds for plays, drawing contest and other activities.
I never stopped drawing, it was kinda like a therapy. Like anyone that continues to do something over and over again you are bound to get better, I would hope.

After getting married at a very young age I did continue to draw and paint just for myself. Then one day, my then husband and his boss came to our house and said, “we have a job for you.” They actually promised this to a very well known person in New Orleans. They proceeded to tell me that I needed to paint his name on this piece of glass, just as it was on the business card. The glass was the front of a cigarette machine, which at that time was in many bars and restaurants, and this man would have it in his newly opened restaurant. He wanted it to reflect the decor he had in there. So it had to match his sign outside and the color he had throughout the restaurant. Oh boy! I wanted to shoot them just then, they have now put their problem on me. If I didn’t do this, the machine wasn’t going in his place. All I could do was look at them like they were crazy, I can’t do this, I explained! Oh sure you can, they retorted….

They proceeded to hand me the business card so I could see what font was used and an apron for the color that was needed. Are you kidding me!
Now, for one thing I never had formal art training, didn’t even know what a font was at the time..LOL Nor did they have computers then much less access to copiers, and they didn’t enlarge or have color. More importantly, I have never painted on glass! Oh boy, did I really have a job! I think it took me three days to even start to approach this task. I had to get this right. This was for the man that owned “Popeyes Chicken”, that just opened a regular restaurant in his name.  Did I mention, I didn’t have any formal art training except one year in high school. Grrrr! Well, to shorten this story it took me a couple of times to get it right, but I did it! It came out great and caused a chain reaction that I ended up doing approximately 26 different restaurant and bars all on glass. This is just one instance that proved to me that you can do anything you want to do if you put your mind to it!  I did it!!!!!!

Learning about “Spa & Hot Tub Covers”

Hot tub cover

Hello readers and bloggers! I thought I would write about something that I learned since meeting my current husband seven years ago.

When we met, he had been selling hot tub covers for at least 18 years. He was always talking to someone on his phone explaining the different specifications on the covers. I didn’t know a thing about them, I thought they just kept the heat in and debris out.

But, that is the farthest from the truth, there is so much more a person buying a replacement cover needs to know. You see a lot of people think ordering over the internet can save them a lot of money. That may be true in some instances, however there are some things that you must be aware before you place that order.

You see there are a lot of variables in the “Cover”. When you order online, there are some important factors you should know before you spend your hard earned money. Here I’m going to share a few things you should look for before ordering.

  1. Is the vinyl really marine grade, if not it will fade and possibly dry out.
  2. There are different pound weights of foam. You don’t want 1lb it absorbs water way to fast, then gets very heavy. So is there an upcharge to increase that to 2lb weight?
  3. Even though they tell you shipping included, but yet they want to sell you a cover for approximately $295 for instance. Be smarter than that, I know for a fact that shipping one cover cost $80-$100 each to ship. So they will find something else to find a charge for, bank on it.
  4. Last but not least, what if the cover gets there and it’s damaged. If you’re not home to receive it and check it out before the delivery person leaves you have the problem of shipping it back. It’s our responsibility, believe me, you have to pay to have it shipped back yourself and hopefully get your money back.                                                                                                                                                                                                            That is just a few of the problems you can run up against while ordering from an online dealer. I’m not telling you this because this is what we do but because we have had so many customers decide to order online and in the end to call us later to order another cover causing them to spend a lot more money because the one they got didn’t last nearly a year.

So be aware when ordering, know what you are getting!

If I can help you with your cover purchase, please leave me a comment with your questions I will try to answer them as soon as I can. I will be happy to help you even get my husband to answer if you would like, he is the Pro!
